Scoliosis is one of the most misunderstood conditions that a Mission Viejo Chiropractor or any doctor can face. The myth that affects a person in more than one way is that a Scoliosis patient is not going to lead a normal life. But this is not true.
Most people with scoliosis can lead normal lives!
You’ve’ got spinal curves. Your spine is made up of 24 bones call vertebrae that stack up one on top of the other to form a more or less straight line when you look at the spine from the back. As the best Chiropractor in Mission Viejo, I take a back x-ray directly from the back and one from the side to look at the curves in the spine. In this manner we can actually see what’s wrong if there is a spinal problem.
Spines are not usually perfectly straight, and that is normal. When the spine curves and twists excessively side-to-side, that ‘s called Scoliosis. In the Greek language, “skolios” means twisted or crooked. A true scoliosis would have both, a sidewise bend and a twist at the same time.
Many Medical professionals including all types of doctors and nurses, will look at the spine, and if it is off at all, they will say you have a “slight scoliosis”. This, of course, scares the patient and they come to me, a Mission Viejo Chiropractor, and tell me what the doctor said.
In fact, the best chiropractors know that a misaligned spine will deviate, not appear straight. But that doesn’t mean that the patient should be labeled with “scoliosis”.
In most cases of scoliosis, the cause is a mystery; the vertebrae and spinal structures-discs, ligaments, tendons and muscles-all appear normal. In a small number of cases the scoliosis is caused by things like a tumor, infection, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, a birth deformity or disc problems.
It is not true that scoliosis is caused by poor posture. It is also not true that all women with scoliosis will have trouble carrying a baby full term. Although, when I was in practice as an Associate Doctor, I witnessed a women have a miscarriage, and then come in for treatment for her scoliosis, following which she successfully had a healthy baby girl!! Weren’t they happy parents?
That only thing that I know of is that research shows that most scoliosis patients have trouble digesting protein. But there are not a lot of studies where most doctors can agree on anything.
One of the most common treatments is to have the patient wear a brace. That helps on average about 50% of the time. But over the long haul, the patient loses the benefit.
After practicing for over 35 years so far in Mission Viejo, the worst cases have had rod surgery, which creates permanent problems with the people I have seen. I have one patient who came to me because she was told I am the best chiropractor in Mission Viejo because of the technique I use. She has had 8 back surgeries and wanted to do something that would prevent her from having her 9th surgery. I have been seeing her for 4 years now. She is a 57-year-old nurse, works 10-12 hour shifts 4-6 days a week, and doesn’t need another back surgery. That’s a terrific result. Wouldn’t you agree?
I have another patient who had steel rods put in her back at age 14. She came to me referred by her boyfriend who told her I was the best Mission Viejo Chiropractor because of my results.
She came to me at age 19. It is now 6 years later, she is 90% better all of the time, and just passed her boards to become a Certified Veterinary Technician working with animals. Another wonderful result!!
Make no uncertain guesses and don’t believe any less then certain hopeful treatment options. The nervous system controls your posture, body balance and positioning. If you were guided into the trap of just Physical Therapy and medication for pain and discomfort, you will never get really corrected.
In the case of scoliosis, or any condition for that matter, the object of any treatment should be to restore the nervous system to normal flow. You may never have even hips and even shoulders, or even a straight spine with a scoliosis condition.
However, you can have a completely functional nervous system and your maximum health, even though your x-ray may never be perfect. That result helps to prevent any progression of the scoliosis, in about 80% of the cases I have seen, the scoliosis improves, and the person leads a healthy normal life.
My approach is different than the traditional chiropractors. That’s why we get a much better result. That is why, as I have alluded to several times, people refer their friends and family to me as the best chiropractor in Mission Viejo.
See, I use 6 ounces of pressure to correct the spine. I don’t do any manual adjusting (popping and cracking) of the spine. The results are measured using a heat sensor to allow me to know when the bones are in the right position that the nerves are completely free. This, in turn, restores normal function so that people maximum their health results. And finally, most of my patients need only 2 treatments per year to maintain their health. That is also an incredible result.
